Prof Nyagwencha is an Assistant Professor in the School of Science and Technology at United States International University – Africa. He worked as an Assistant Professor Hampton University, USA and a lecturer in Computer Science Department for Spellman College, USA.
For UNICEF /UNDP in Liberia Ebola Response , he deployed the first Mobile Money cash transfers for frontline health workers, MM transfer for beneficiaries of Hygiene kits , developing an ecosystem of retailers and cash-in cash-out agents.
In Georgia , he introduced mobile money , van banking and designed the first cash transfer for G2P , social payments through mobile money for several NGOs to returnees , refugees and IDPs, a model that was replicated in Armenia and Azerbaijan; In Afghanistan he led the advisory to Da Afghanistan bank and BRAC bank launching the first mobile money disbursement of loans and pilot salary payments to select government employees;
In Pakistan he introduced mobile money , Van Banking , e-delivery channels and drafting the mobile money policy for the Kashif Bank and NRSP Bank; In Liberia and Sierra Leone he helped the Central banks develop Mobile money policy; For ShoreBank Exchange and ShoreCap International he led the review of all the Micro finance banks in over 20 banks in Asia and Africa.
More recently he helped the government of Uganda address a market failure in uptake of Digital and Mobile Financial services and roll out the first Mobile wallet to Bank Account connectivity and deploying to rural small scale farmers and also helped Centenary Bank, Pride Microfinance and Barclays bank develop Mobile Money Financial products target poor family households in rural areas.
For the Bank of Iraq he led the development of the RFP and deployment of countrywide Mobile Payments platform and Bank of Jamaica on Mobile Money fraud. Separately he conducted a Gap Analysis of the mobile money space in Pakistan for USAID and advised key stakeholders on how to scale mobile money usage and uptake.
He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Financial Risk and Regulation from Frankfurt School of Business, Germany, a Master of Science in Finance from Georgia Tech University, USA and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Kenya.
